Woman and thief arrested for theft and trade in stolen gold jewellery in Siliguri

Siliguri, 27th March: In a recent development, the Pradhan Nagar police have successfully apprehended a woman and a thief on charges of theft and the trade of stolen gold jewellery. The accused have been identified as Munni Devi, accused of buying stolen goods for sale, and Shiva Barman alias Bau, the alleged thief.


According to official sources within the police department, the incident took place on the 24th of March in Ward No. 02 under the jurisdiction of the Pradhan Nagar Police Station. The accused Shiva Barman allegedly made off with gold jewellery and a leather jacket from a vacant residence in the area. The incident came to light when the homeowner returned home, prompting him to lodge a complaint with the Pradhan Nagar Police Station.

Following the complaint, the police officials swiftly launched an investigation that led to the arrest of Shiva Barman along with the stolen leather jacket from Darjeeling More. During the interrogation of the accused, the officials learned about the sale of the stolen gold jewellery at a gold store in Darjeeling More.


Following this, the police conducted a raid at the specified gold store in Darjeeling More and recovered stolen gold jewellery weighing 14 grams. Additionally, the shop owner, identified as Munni Devi, was also taken into custody in connection with the case. However, efforts to locate Munni Devi’s husband are ongoing. Subsequently, the accused Shiva Barman and Munni Devi were produced in the Siliguri Court and taken on a 7-day police remand.
