Wild elephant rampage continues in Rajganj, several houses and crops damaged

Rajganj, 20th February: The prevailing issue of the wild elephant menace triggered panic among the residents. In another such incident, several houses and crops in the village of Hudugachh in Rajganj suffered significant damage after the wild elephants invaded the area.


It is to be noted that, on Sunday night, an adult elephant and its calf appeared from the Baikunthpur forest region and entered the residential area. The elephants wreaked havoc in the areas, including Cheulibari, Chakiabhita, Ambari, Sudamgachh, and Shalguri.

Reportedly, on Monday, the animals headed towards the farmland of the Hudugachh area under the Majhiyali Gram Panchayat of Rajganj block. Subsequently, the elephants damaged several crops and residences in the area. However, the animals could not be spotted after the incident.


On Tuesday, Panchayat Pradhan Sumit Dutta arrived at the spot upon receiving the news and took stock of the entire situation. He stated that the residents of the area were frequently affected by the invasion of wild elephants and thus the affected families would be assisted. Meanwhile, the forest department has initiated a search operation for the elephants.
