Siliguri, 08th August: Pradhan Nagar Police arrested three people in connection with the alleged theft of 20 cartons of apples from a truck at knifepoint in Siliguri’s Regulated Market. The arrested accused have been identified as Mithun Roy, Shivam Sahani and Harsh Paswan.
According to information, the incident took place late on August 6 when a truck loaded with apples was parked in front of a fruit trader’s store at the Regulated Market. Cartons of apples began to be removed from the truck, but the driver and assistant driver initially did not notice the theft.
After noticing that the number of cartons had decreased, they became suspicious and began keeping watch over the truck. During the surveillance, they allegedly saw some youths taking cartons of apples from the truck one by one.
When the driver and assistant driver attempted to stop them, the youths allegedly displayed sharp weapons and threatened to kill them.
The driver and assistant driver subsequently lodged a complaint at Pradhan Nagar Police Station. Following the complaint, police began an investigation, questioned witnesses and examined CCTV footage from the Regulated Market.
Based on the CCTV footage and information received, police identified the accused and conducted a raid in the DhaknIkata area, leading to the arrest of all three.
Police registered a case against the three accused and produced them before the Siliguri court on Saturday, where police sought remand. Further investigation into the case is underway.
