Wild elephant herd wreaks havoc in Kalchini

Alipurduar, 29th November: A herd of wild elephants rampaged across several areas in the Kalchini block of Alipurduar district. On Thursday night, the herd entered Satali Nakadala in Kalchini and damaged crops, including rice in the area.


The herd also targeted the Bhaktapara SSK School and the ICDS center, damaged the kitchens, and destroyed the food supplies meant for the mid-day meal program. The incident has raised alarm across the entire region.

Local residents reported that elephant attacks have become a recurring problem, with herds regularly damaging homes, crops, and other property. On the night of the attack, three elephants were reported to have caused significant damage in the village.


The locals have urged the administration and the forest department for heightened surveillance in the area.
