Water level at Gajoldoba Teesta barrage rises following flash flood in Sikkim

Gajoldoba, 4th October: Cloudburst in Sikkim triggered a flash flood in the Teesta River. Following this, the water level of the Gajoldoba Teesta Barrage has risen considerably leaving the residents of the area in distress.


As per reports, the Chungthang dam was damaged due to heavy rains and flash floods in Sikkim on Tuesday night. Consequently, the Gajoldoba barrage in Rajganj block is under increased water pressure as the river is flowing above the danger level. In response, the administration has opened several gates of the barrage.

In this regard, the locals stated that the water level of Teesta barrage water has been rising since the night. They added that they had never witnessed the prevalent level of water at the barrage in the past.


Rajganj BDO Pankaj Konar stated the situation to be alarming and is being closely monitored. He added that the residents of the area have been alerted of the situation. Police and civil defense teams are actively on the spot.
