VRDL lab to be launched in NBMCH soon

Siliguri, 28th March: Amidst the Coronavirus outbreak, 13 patients have been placed under observation at the isolation ward of North Bengal Medical College-Hospital.


As per the report, a Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL) lab was supposed to be launched in the microbiology department of NBMCH from last Wednesday. However, the lab has not yet been set up.

The hospital Principal Prabir Kumar Deb stated that few doctors are on their way from Kolkata to inaugurate the VRDL lab. After the inauguration, any kind of viral test can be done in NBMCH itself.


The State Tourism Minister Goutam Deb stated that the VRDL lab was planned in the year 2016-17 under the initiative of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Meanwhile, many approvals have been obtained, including WHO (World Health Organization).
