Rajganj, 17th April: An elderly voter aged over 100 years, Lakshmi Biswas, cast her vote from home under the Home Voting facility in Rajganj block, demonstrating a strong commitment to democracy.
An Election Commission team reached her residence in the Ambari area of Rajganj and completed the voting process at home during the ongoing Assembly election exercise.
The Home Voting facility, introduced by the Election Commission, allows voters aged above 85 years and persons with at least 40 percent disability to cast their vote from home. Certain categories of essential service personnel are also eligible under specific conditions.
Eligible voters are required to apply in advance using a prescribed form. Once approved, election officials visit the voter’s residence on a scheduled date to conduct polling. The process is carried out in the presence of a Presiding Officer, central security forces, a videographer, and security personnel to ensure transparency and security.
Ahead of the first phase of polling on April 23, the Home Voting process has been implemented in several districts of North Bengal, including Rajganj in Jalpaiguri district.
Lakshmi Biswas’ participation has been seen as a notable example of civic responsibility and democratic participation.
