Violence erupts in Dinhata ahead of Panchayat Polls, TMC worker killed

Cooch Behar, 27th June: Tensions escalated once again in Dinhata as the upcoming panchayat elections approach, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) being accused of attacking Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers. Reportedly, in the early hours of today, some miscreants allegedly entered the residence of Trinamool workers in Dharla village, under Gitaldaha Gram Panchayat-II of Dinhata Block No. 02 and attacked them. This resulted in the death of a Trinamool worker and leaving five others injured.


The deceased has been identified as Babu Haque. Meanwhile, the injured individuals were rushed to Dinhata Subdivisional Hospital for medical treatment. Police swiftly arrived at the scene and recovered the body of the deceased. The Trinamool party accused the BJP of involvement in the incident, asserting their allegations.

Contrariwise, the BJP has refuted these claims, denying any involvement in the violent episode. The police investigation is underway to ascertain the facts surrounding the incident and determine the responsible parties.
