Siliguri, 05th June: On the occasion of World Environment Day, Farabari Mahadev Sporting Club carried out a unique initiative in Siliguri by presenting saplings to on-duty traffic police personnel across different parts of the city, along with undertaking tree plantation at several locations.
According to the club, traffic police personnel often have to perform their duties under harsh sunlight for long hours, and many traffic points lack adequate shade. Keeping this in mind, the initiative was undertaken so that the saplings, once grown, may provide shade and offer some relief to on-duty personnel.
The club members said the effort is aimed at promoting environmental conservation as well as expressing solidarity with frontline workers.
