Siliguri, 27th August: Underground cabling work in Siliguri has led to fresh problems in several areas of the city. Old electric poles have been removed in different areas, but existing cables and internet wires have allegedly not been properly managed, causing difficulties for the public and service providers.
Cables and internet wires have reportedly been left scattered across several roads in the city. This is not only increasing the risk of accidents but also causing disruptions to services.
Amid the situation, the Siliguri Cable and Internet Association submitted a memorandum to the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, demanding an immediate solution to the problem.
According to the association, they were called to meetings during the tenure of the previous board but were not given an opportunity to express their views. They alleged that similar work is now being carried out without any discussion, resulting in problems for service providers.
The association further claimed that they had tried to contact the Municipal Commissioner several times but could not get an appointment. On Thursday, in the Commissioner’s absence, the memorandum was handed over to another official.
The association warned that if the problem is not resolved quickly, cable TV and internet services across Siliguri will be shut down from September 21.
