Siliguri, 27th August: A youth from Siliguri has gone missing in Nepal following the devastating flash floods that caused widespread disruption in the region. The missing youth has been identified as Samar Mondal, a resident of the Shanti Nagar’s Bowbazar area of Siliguri.
Samar had left Siliguri on August 16 for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. He had booked the trip through a travel agency based in Rajasthan. From Siliguri, he travelled to Nepal and later proceeded to Tibet. After falling ill in Tibet, he was returning towards Nepal.
According to his family, Samar last spoke to them early Wednesday morning. At around 5 am, he spoke to his wife over the phone and said that he was at the immigration office along the Nepal-Tibet border. He reportedly told her that he would enter Nepal after completing the immigration formalities.
After learning about the flash floods in Nepal, the family began trying to contact Samar. However, they have been unable to establish contact with him till Thursday.
Family members have left for Nepal to search for Samar. The family has also informed the Nepal administration and the West Bengal Government about the matter.
On Thursday, Dabgram-Fulbari MLA Sikha Chatterjee visited Samar’s family at their residence in Shanti Nagar. She said she would speak with state government officials regarding efforts to trace the missing youth.
