Unable to clear debt, gold trader commits suicide in Siliguri

Siliguri, 10th November: Unable to clear his debt, a gold trader from Siliguri committed suicide. The deceased in a suicide note mentioned that his business faced huge losses in the past two years due to the pandemic, due to which he was unable to clear the debts. Furthermore, the pressure from the shop owner to pay the rent added to his concern which left him no choice but to take the drastic step. The deceased has been identified as Tapan Paul.


Reportedly, Paul opened the shop located near NTS More on Wednesday morning and pulled down the shutters from inside. Later, his family members came looking for him and saw the shop was closed. When they entered out of suspicion, they found his lifeless body hanging from a noose. The Siliguri police reached the spot shortly after, recovered the body, and sent it to Siliguri hospital.
