Two labourers from Rajganj died after being trapped under debris in Sikkim’s Pelling

Rajganj, 31st December: Two persons from Baropetia Gram Panchayat of Rajganj block in Jalpaiguri district lost their lives while three were injured after they were buried under debris while working at a construction site in Pelling, Sikkim. The injured are being treated at a private hospital in Siliguri. 


According to a labourer, a total of 8 labourers from Jhakua Para and Dhami Para villages under Baropetia had gone to Pelling in search of work. All the workers were working at the construction site when the landslip occurred. During this, the rest of the workers were successful in saving their lives, however, two workers died and three were injured. 

The deceased have been identified as Ravi Roy (30) and Shudhuram Oraon (50). After the bodies reached their native village this morning, a shadow of mourning engulfed the whole area. On the other hand, the representatives of the district administration reached the village this morning and met the families of the injured and the deceased.
