Two bank employees arrested for robbing customer and holding hostage in Panitanki

Siliguri, 02nd March: Officials of the Panitanki Outpost arrested two temporary bank employees on charges of holding a customer hostage and extorting money for failing to deposit the loan amount. The accused’s identities are Sonu Kamti (32) and Saurav Rai (32).


According to reports, a youth from Bagdogra recently drafted a loan of Rs 2 lakh 50 thousand from a bank in the Panitanki Outpost region. Despite pressure from the bank, the young man was unable to deposit the EMI. Meanwhile, on Friday, the youth’s mother went to the bank to deposit an EMI of roughly Rs 10-12 thousand. It is alleged that during this period, two temporary workers of the bank held the woman hostage and robbed her of her money.

Upon learning of the occurrence, the officials of the Panitanki Outpost arrived at the scene. Meanwhile, following the woman’s complaint, the police arrested both of the accused employees. On Saturday, both the accused were produced before the Siliguri court.
