Siliguri, 13th July: Plainclothes officers from Pradhan Nagar Police Station arrested two alleged smugglers with a large consignment of illegal liquor before it could be transported to Bihar.
The accused have been identified as Amit Kumar and Guddu Kumar, both residents of Bihar.
According to police sources, the two men were waiting to board a bus to Bihar at the Siliguri Junction bus stand on Sunday night while carrying a large quantity of illegal liquor allegedly procured from Siliguri. Acting on a tip-off, plainclothes police personnel reached the spot and searched the duo.
During the search, officers recovered a substantial quantity of high-value liquor from their possession. Both men were arrested and produced before the Siliguri Court on Monday.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the source of the liquor and whether the accused are linked to a larger smuggling network.
