Siliguri, 13th July: Two alleged drug traffickers were arrested with 278 grams of brown sugar during a joint operation conducted by the Special Operations Group (SOG) and plainclothes personnel from Matigara Police Station in Siliguri.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Arun Sharma and Suman Barman.
According to police sources, the joint team carried out the raid on Sunday following a tip-off regarding suspected drug trafficking. The two suspects were initially detained for questioning. After their statements raised suspicion, the police conducted a search and recovered a packet containing 278 grams of brown sugar, leading to their arrest.
Police said the seized contraband has an estimated international market value of several lakh rupees. A motorcycle and a mobile phone, allegedly used in the trafficking operation, were also seized during the raid.
The accused were produced before the Siliguri Court on Monday. Police are investigating the entire incident.
