Two arrested on charges of vandalizing hospital in Siliguri, CPI(M) stage protest against police

Siliguri, 20th December: Tension ensued in Siliguri’s private hospital after its premises were ransacked on 19th December due to the death of a 22-year-old youth. After this, ACP Shubhendra Kumar and Commissioner Akhilesh Chaturvedi reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Along with this, the Commissioner had also directed to take strict action against those who vandalized the hospital. After this, the Bhaktinagar police, who earlier had detained two men identified as Surendra Sharma and Bullet Singh, later arrested them for vandalizing the hospital.

Today both were presented in Jalpaiguri court. Both the arrested are said to be CPI (M)  leaders. Meanwhile, a protest was staged on behalf of the Darjeeling District CPI (M) Committee. They demonstrated fiercely by gheraoing the Bhakti Nagar police station, demanding the release of Surendra Sharma and Bullet Singh. The protesters accused the police of arresting people because of their political affiliation.

Speaking in this regard, CPI (M) leader Dilip Singh said that he had reached the spot yesterday after getting the news of the death of a youth. While the angry people ransacked the hospital, only two were arrested and both were CPI (M) workers. Stating this, Dilip Singh alleged police administration arrested them because of their political affiliation. Singh further said that crime incidents have increased in the Bhakti Nagar area and police efforts remain in vain to catch culprits. At the same time, party leader Saman Pathak also condemned the arrest of the two from a political point of view.
