SMC demolishes alleged illegal construction in Siliguri’s Ward No. 02 following landlord’s complaint

Siliguri, 19th August: The Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) demolished a portion of alleged illegal construction at a house in Ward No. 02 under Pradhan Nagar Police Station following a complaint from the landlord.

A large police contingent from Pradhan Nagar Police Station was present at the spot during the demolition drive, which was carried out with the help of a JCB.

According to information, landlord Yogesh Sharma had rented out the house in the Old SNT Godown area around 10 years ago to Dr Vibha Mishra Singh for operating a yoga centre.

Relatives of the landlord alleged that the tenant did not vacate the property even after the rental period ended. They further alleged that illegal construction had been carried out on the exterior portion of the house.

Following the complaint, a written petition was submitted to the SMC. The civic body’s team reached the spot on Wednesday and, after an inspection, demolished the portion identified as alleged illegal construction using a JCB.

However, Dr Vibha Mishra denied the allegations and termed them baseless. She said a yoga centre had been operating at the premises and that the matter concerning the alleged illegal construction was already sub judice.

She alleged that the SMC carried out the demolition despite the matter being pending before the court and without providing her proper notice or sufficient time.

The SMC, however, stated that the action was carried out in accordance with the applicable directions.
