Siliguri, 19th August: Security arrangements have been tightened in Siliguri ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s proposed visit. A day after West Bengal DGP Siddh Nath Gupta inspected the venue, ADG Security Manoj Kumar Verma visited Kawakhali ground on Wednesday to review the arrangements.
Siliguri Police Commissioner Syed Waquar Raza was also present during the inspection. The two senior officers reviewed the programme venue and took stock of the security arrangements.
According to information, a special five-day programme is being organised at Kawakhali ground to raise public awareness about the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the new criminal laws. Plays and other awareness programmes will be held during the event to explain the new laws to the public.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to inaugurate the programme. West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is also expected to attend the event.
In view of the proposed visit, the police and administration have made extensive security arrangements at the venue. Officials are continuously monitoring the preparations to ensure there are no lapses in security during the programme.
