Two arrested along with 50 pieces of gold bars in Siliguri

Siliguri, 04th March: Based on a tip-off, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) launched a campaign in the Bidhannagar area, on Tuesday night, and arrested two gold smugglers from two different buses. The arrested smugglers have been identified as Hasanur Jamal and Latif Rahman. According to the DRI lawyero, Tridip Saha, both the accused were planning to smuggle the gold in Malda and Murshidabad in two separate buses by crossing the Bangladesh border. However, the DRI team foiled their plans by conducting a campaign and arresting the smugglers. 50 pieces of gold bars have been recovered from their possession, whose market value has been estimated to be around 2.50 crore rupees. Each gold bar weighs 116 grams.


Both the accused were presented in the Siliguri ACJM court, on Wednesday, where the two accused were sentenced to jail custody for 14 days. The DRI is investigating the entire case.
