‘Triphala Light’ structures being removed from Siliguri roads amid corruption allegations

Siliguri, 30th May: The removal of defunct ‘Triphala Light’ structures from various roads in Siliguri has begun, marking the dismantling of installations once linked to major corruption allegations in the state.

The Triphala Light project, implemented during the TMC regime under the SJDA, had earlier faced allegations of irregularities worth nearly ₹200 crore. The controversy surrounding the project has continued for years.

Following a change in government, authorities have now initiated steps to remove the remaining non-functional structures from the city. After discussions with the administration, work has begun to dismantle the unused light poles from different parts of Siliguri.

Although local MLA Shankar Ghosh has not made a direct statement on the matter, he has indicated that the government may revisit the files related to the Triphala Light project.

The structures, once installed at significant cost, have remained defunct for years and now stand as abandoned iron frames across the city. Locals have expressed concerns that instead of improving urban aesthetics, they have become remnants of alleged corruption and also pose safety risks.

With demolition work now underway, the controversial installations are being gradually removed from city roads. Political observers view this as both the clearing of outdated infrastructure and a symbolic closure of a long-debated corruption case.
