Siliguri, 02nd August: The Siliguri Junction GRP arrested a couple for allegedly smuggling cannabis during a routine security check aboard the Kanchankanya Express.
The accused have been identified as Suvendu Das (32) and Kamala Das, residents of Bardhaman.
According to the GRP, the couple came under suspicion during a routine inspection of the train. A search of their trolley bag led to the recovery of a large quantity of cannabis.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were travelling to Kolkata with the contraband.
Police have registered a case against the duo under the NDPS Act.
The accused were produced before the Siliguri court on Sunday. Suvendu Das was remanded to custody, while the GRP has launched a detailed investigation to ascertain the source and intended destination of the seized cannabis.
