Siliguri, 02nd August: The West Bengal government is planning to setup an eco-tourism park in the Baikunthapur forest area under Dabgram-Fulbari to promote tourism while preserving the region’s ecological balance.
A 143-hectare stretch of land near the Baikunthapur forest in the Shiv Nagar area, adjacent to the Eastern Bypass, has been identified for the proposed project. A portion of the land will be utilised for developing the eco-tourism hub.
Forest Minister Manoj Kumar Oraon visited the proposed site on Sunday to assess the project. He was accompanied by Tourism Minister Shankar Ghosh, Jalpaiguri MP Jayanta Kumar Roy, local MLAs and officials from the concerned departments.
Speaking during the visit, Oraon said the initiative aims to create a new tourist attraction while ensuring the conservation of the area’s natural environment. He added that the park would be developed entirely on an eco-tourism model with a focus on maintaining ecological balance.
The minister said the final design and infrastructure for the project are yet to be decided. He added that a detailed blueprint would be prepared after consultations with all relevant stakeholders before work begins.
