Trinamool’s Rajib Banerjee resigns as MLA

Trinamool leader Rajib Banerjee, who recently exited the Mamata Banerjee-led State Cabinet, resigned from the party’s MLA representing the Domjur seat, on Friday.

Rajiv Banerjee reached the assembly this morning and was spotted carrying a photograph of Mamata Banerjee. According to sources, he sat in front of the speaker and wrote his resignation.

“It is with my sincere gratitude that I am resigning as Member of West Bengal Legislative Assembly,” Banerjee later wrote in a social media post.

“Serving for the people of West Bengal has been my life’s greatest achievement, I am gratified of what has been accomplished during nearly 10 years of my term. I deeply appreciate the confidence you have placed in me. I also thank the people of Domjur constituency for believing in me and I promise to stay beside you all and work for your and Bengal’s betterment in the future to come. Wish everyone and my dear Member colleagues of Legislative Assembly the best in the future,” he further added.

While Banerjee has not resigned from Trinamool Congress yet, Banerjee is widely expected to join the BJP on Sunday, in the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah.
