Siliguri, 18th July: State Minister and Siliguri MLA Shankar Ghosh expressed concern over the poor condition of the Additional District Library, Siliguri, after inspecting the facility on Saturday.
During his visit, Ghosh reviewed the condition of the library building and expressed displeasure over the long-standing issues of poor maintenance and neglect. Several parts of the building were found in a dilapidated state, with water leaking from the roof, damaged walls and ceilings, and overgrown bushes inside the premises.
Calling the condition of the important educational centre unfortunate, Shankar Ghosh said that the issue had not come to his notice earlier but assured that immediate steps would be taken after understanding the seriousness of the situation.
The minister said he has spoken with the concerned department minister, who assured that a visit to Siliguri will be made in August to inspect the library and prepare a detailed plan for its reconstruction, modernisation and development.
Ghosh stated that a library is not just a place for books but an important centre for education, culture and knowledge, making proper infrastructure and modern facilities essential.
Following the minister’s visit, expectations have risen that renovation and development work at the Additional District Library, Siliguri, will begin soon, providing better and safer facilities for students, readers and residents.
