Siliguri, 17th July: A small childhood habit of saving money to buy flower saplings has now transformed into a unique rooftop organic fruit garden for Dr. Sanjay Biswas, a resident of Shiv Mandir and a Geography teacher at Ramganj High School.
Dr. Biswas has created an extraordinary rooftop fruit garden at his home, which has already become an inspiration for many. His garden features around 50 varieties of fruit plants, including 35 varieties of mangoes, with 18 varieties bearing fruits this year.
The rooftop garden offers a unique collection of mango varieties including Miyazaki Mango, King of Chakapa, Banana Mango, Pusa Pitambar, Pusa Surya, Pusa Arunima, Arunika Mango, Maya Mango, Sensation Mango and Katimon Mango, among others.
Apart from mangoes, his garden also has Jamrul, Rose Apple, Malta, Mosambi, Litchi, Dragon Fruit, Pineapple, Olive, Lemon, two varieties of Jackfruit, six varieties of Grapes and seven types of Apples.
Dr. Sanjay Biswas said he is currently experimenting with different fruit cultivation methods. In the future, he plans to purchase land and start commercial organic fruit production on a larger scale.
He credits technology for his success, saying that he learned modern rooftop gardening techniques through years of research using Google, YouTube and various online platforms.
At present, people from different districts of West Bengal are contacting him for cultivation advice, saplings and technical support.
