Siliguri, 05th July: The Traffic Department of the Siliguri Metropolitan Police on Sunday launched a state-of-the -art Traffic Marshal Service across the police commissionerate area and introduced a 24×7 tourist helpline to enhance road safety, improve traffic management, and provide quicker assistance to tourists during emergencies.
The initiative is aimed at ensuring smoother traffic flow, reducing road accidents, enabling faster police response, and strengthening tourist safety in and around the city.
As part of the launch, five Traffic Marshal motorcycles were flagged off during a programme held at Mainak Tourist Lodge in Mallaguri. The motorcycles were inaugurated by State Tourism Minister Shankar Ghosh in the presence of Police Commissioner Syed Waquar Raza and other senior police officials.
Addressing the programme, Tourism Minister Shankar Ghosh said that Siliguri receives a large number of tourists every year, making it essential to provide dedicated support for their safety and convenience. He stated that the newly introduced 24-hour tourist helpline will ensure immediate police assistance during emergencies. Upon receiving a complaint, the information will be forwarded to the concerned police station for prompt action.
Police Commissioner Syed Waquar Raza said the department’s focus is on delivering fast, modern, and technology-driven services.
He added that the Traffic Marshal Service will help manage traffic congestion more effectively while also facilitating quicker relief and rescue operations in case of road accidents. The tourist helpline, he said, will further strengthen the safety and security of visitors travelling through the region.
