TMC Leader in Siliguri survives knife attack, one arrested

Siliguri, June 25th: Ward No. 24 of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) was gripped by tension following an alleged knife attack on the Youth President of Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the ward. The apprehended individual involved in the incident has been identified as Jhantu Saha.


According to reports, TMC youth president Jayabrata Mukhuti engaged in a heated argument with an individual on Sevoke Road on Saturday night. Subsequently, Jayabrata was reportedly cornered by a group of miscreants, and one of them stabbed him.

Upon receiving information about the attack, members of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad and other TMC leaders rushed to the scene, rescued the injured leader, and admitted him to Siliguri District Hospital. Meanwhile, the police arrived and launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of Jhantu Saha.


On Sunday morning, Siliguri Mayor Goutam Deb visited the injured youth leader. Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar and Darjeeling District Trinamool Congress leader Papiya Ghosh also met with the injured individual. Mayor Goutam Deb strongly condemned the incident, stating that it escalated from a minor dispute. Presently, the matter remains under investigation by the police.
