Timber smuggling bid hidden in husk sacks busted in Fulbari More area, one arrested

Rajganj 23rd November: In a significant breakthrough, the forest personnel of the Ambari Range foiled timber smuggling bid and seized wood logs worth about Rs 3 lakh, cleverly hidden among paddy husk sacks, and arrested one involved in the illicit activity. The incident took place in the Fulbari More area of the Siliguri-Jalpaiguri National Highway.


As per reports, early on Thursday, the forest personnel of Ambari Range under the leadership of Ranger Alamgir Haque launched an operation in the Fulbari More area of the Siliguri-Jalpaiguri National Highway (NH) and seized a lorry loaded with timber. Subsequently, an individual, stated to be a resident of Siliguri, was arrested in connection to the incident.

Forest Department sources stated that the operation was successfully coordinated based on a tip-off. Following an interrogation, it was revealed that the wood was being transported from Siliguri to Bihar via Bidhannagar for its clandestine disposal. Meanwhile, the accused was produced before the Jalpaiguri district court.
