Thugs target elderly couple in Siliguri’s Ashram Para and steal their jewelry under the guise of giving it shine

Siliguri, 11th January: Cases of thugs stealing jewelry under the pretext of cleaning have been surfacing quite often for the past few months in Siliguri. Similarly, such a case of duping and stealing jewelry took place in Ashram Para’s Lala Lajpat Rai Road where an elderly couple got trapped in their scam.


Reportedly, on Wednesday afternoon the said couple was sitting outside the house when they were approached by two youths. A young man started talking to them about gold cleaning. After this, the thugs asked the elderly couple Shipra Majumdar and Ashok Majumdar to give them gold jewelry to polish. After then, the youth started cleaning Shipra’s gold bangle but was stopped at a point. But the young man forcefully removed Soni’s bangle from her hand. Along with this, they also took Ashok Majumdar’s ring to clean it. After this, both of them took gold ornaments and escaped.

On the other hand, as soon as the information about the incident was received, the police of Panitanki Out Post reached the spot. The incident is being investigated by examining the CCTV footage installed in the area. It is to be noted that a similar incident occurred near Dabgram a few days back where the miscreants fled away with gold ornaments of a woman under the pretext of cleaning them.
