Alipurduar, 26th September: While returning from Siliguri to Kamakhyaguri with the dead body of their father, three people including the son, wife, and a friend of the son died in a road accident.
Reportedly, Suryapad Paul, a Professor at North Bengal University was returning home from Siliguri in an ambulance with his deceased father’s body on Sunday night along with the family members in the vehicle behind. In the early hours of today, the vehicle met with a horrific road accident in 31C National Highway area of Kalchini block. His vehicle collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction. As a result, all the passengers of the vehicle were seriously injured.
After the incident, Kalchini police and Hasimara fire brigade rescued the injured and took them to Alipurduar Hospital, where Professor Suryapad Paul, his mother Minati Paul, and Suryapad’s friend Debashish Saha died. At the same time, the professor’s wife Poornima Bala Paul, and their 5-year-old daughter are in critical condition in a nursing home in Cooch Behar. Police have started the investigation of the entire incident. They have taken the truck in their possession. The tragic death of the professor and his family have left the neighbourhood in mourning.
