Three fake ‘NIA Officers’ arrested in Siliguri for extorting ₹1 lakh

Siliguri, 23rd November: The Detective Department (DD) and Special Operations Group (SOG) of Siliguri Metropolitan Police have arrested three men posing as NIA officers, following a written complaint. The accused allegedly extorted ₹1 lakh from a resident of Medical area by intimidating him.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Ehsan Ahmed, Rehan Babar, both residents of Panjipara, and Manik Roy, a resident of Siliguri.

According to police, Rahul Ghosh of Chathat Medical More filed a complaint at Matigara police station on Wednesday, stating that the three men, pretending to be NIA officers, threatened and intimidated him to extract ₹1 lakh.

Acting on the complaint, the DD and SOG initiated a joint investigation and apprehended the three accused in Saturday.

During the operation, the police recovered a four-wheeler, a scooter, six mobile phones, and several photocopies of documents related to the victim from the accused.

The three accused were presented before the Siliguri court on Sunday. The police team is continuing a detailed investigation into the case.
