Siliguri, 09th December: The SOG and DD units of Siliguri Metropolitan Police foiled a major drug trafficking attempt during a joint operation and arrested two women and one youth with a huge consignment of brown sugar and a large amount of cash.
The arrested accused have been identified as Arsida Khatun (30), Ajmeri Khatun (22), and MD Azad (19). All three are residents of Vishwas Colony under the Matigara area.
According to police sources, the accused had arrived on the elevated four-lane road at Chandmuni under Matigara Police Station to deliver brown sugar. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the SOG and DD teams launched a joint raid and detained the trio on suspicion before conducting a thorough search.
During the operation, police recovered 500 grams of brown sugar along with cash amounting to Rs 5,16,000 from their possession. Following the recovery, all three were taken into custody.
Police officials stated that the accused were planning to carry out a hand-to-hand delivery in Matigara before smuggling the narcotics into Siliguri. A case has been registered against them under the NDPS Act, and they will be produced before the Siliguri court on Wednesday.
Police will seek their remand to ascertain whether more individuals are involved in the drug trafficking racket and to uncover further links of the gang.
