Three arrested in Siliguri along with 26 kg gold

Siliguri, 15th August: The DRI, on Friday night, launched operations at NJP Station and arrested three men along with 26.25 kg of gold. The estimated market value of the recovered gold is 14 crore 9 lakh 11 thousand 424 rupees.


The arrested accused have been identified as Sourav Shamarao Shikhande (23), Sandesh Apa Norale (21) and Sashikanta Tanaji Kute (25). All are reportedly residents of Maharashtra.

According to police sources, the arrested were produced before the Siliguri court today. They have been taken in jail custody.


DRI’s lawyer Trideep Saha stated that the DRI team received information from undercover sources regarding the gold smuggling through the Brahmaputra Mail.

During the search campaign, 160 gold bars were recovered. The gold was allegedly being smuggled from Myanmar to Delhi.
