Third tranche of economic stimulus on Agriculture

The Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, on Friday, addressed the third press conference regarding the economic package announced by the Prime Minister.


During the conference, additional steps for agriculture during the COVID-19 was stated by the FM including Minimum Support Price purchases of amount more than Rs. 74,300 crore, PM Kisan fund transfer of Rs. 18700 crore.

As the demand for milk during the COVID-19 lockdown period was reduced by 20-25%. A new scheme to provide interest subvention at 2% per annum to dairy cooperatives for 2020-21. The scheme will unlock Rs. 5,000 crore additional liquidity, benefit to 2 crore farmers, the FM further added.


In the third tranche of the economic stimulus, 11 measures for India’s farmers out of which 8 measures invested in agricultural sector and 3 measures on administration, governance reforms were announced.

1. Rs. 1 lakh crore to Agricultural Infrastructure Fund for farm-gate infrastructure for farmers

2. Rs. 10,000 crores scheme for Formalisation of Micro Food Enterprises (MFE)

3. Fisheries – Rs. 20,000 crore Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana for development of marine and inland fisheries.

4. National Animal Disease Control Programme for Foot and Mouth Disease and Brucellosis launched with a total outlay of Rs 13,343 crore

5. Rs. 15,000 crore for Dairy Infrastructure

6. Promotion for Herbal Cultivation – SPL Rs. 4,000 crore for Herbal Cultivation

7. Rs. 500 crore for Beekeeping initiative


8. TOP to Total Initiative: Rs. 500 crore investment to boost supply chain.

9. Amendment of Essential Commodities Act to enable better price realisation for farmers

10. Agriculture Marketing Reforms to provide marketing choices to farmers
