Siliguri, 05th July: Thieves allegedly broke into a pharmacy in the Pradhan Nagar Police Station area and stole around ₹90,000 in cash. The incident, which took place at a pharmacy located on Meghnath Saha Sarani Lane, was captured on CCTV.
According to reports, the incident came to light on Wednesday morning when a shop employee arrived to open the shutter and found it damaged. Upon entering the pharmacy, he found the cash box lock broken and the money missing. He immediately informed the pharmacy owner, Ajay Kumar Yadav, who later informed the police.
After examining the CCTV footage, it was found that five miscreants arrived at the pharmacy late at night in an e-rickshaw. One of them allegedly entered the pharmacy by lifting the shutter without breaking the main lock and broke open the locks of two cash boxes within five minutes before fleeing with around ₹90,000.
The accused then escaped from the spot in the e-rickshaw. Local traders have raised concerns over the increasing incidents of theft and questioned the security arrangements in the area.
Pharmacy owner Ajay Kumar Yadav said that a similar theft had taken place at the same pharmacy around two years ago, when nearly ₹2 lakh was stolen.
Following the incident, Pradhan Nagar Police reached the spot and started an investigation. Police have collected the CCTV footage and launched a search to identify and arrest the accused.
