Tension escalates in Naxalbari after murder incident; financial assistance provided to victims

Naxalbari, 23rd June: The atmosphere in Muribasti of Hatighisa, Naxalbari turned heated on Wednesday following a tragic murder incident that shocked the entire area. The incident sparked outrage among the local people, leading to protests, road blockades and burning of tires. The demonstrators vented their anger by ransacking houses, including that of the accused, and even setting some residences on fire.


In response to the escalating situation, authorities visited the affected area on Thursday and provided financial assistance to the family of the deceased as well as other affected families. Siliguri Mayor, Goutam Deb, in collaboration with the Siliguri Mahakma Parishad, took the initiative to extend support to the victims. A sum of Rs 25,000 was handed over to the deceased’s family under the Hatighisa Gram Panchayat. Additionally, 46 members of the affected families were also provided with financial aid.

Mayor Goutam Deb expressed his concern, stating, “The cheques have been handed over to the family of the deceased and the affected families as an initial phase of assistance. A community kitchen has been set up in the area, and we will continue to provide all necessary aid, including widow allowances, to the wife of the deceased and the affected families. We are committed to restoring peace in the region and will be conducting meetings in the coming days to address the situation.”


Arun Ghosh, Sabhadhipati of Siliguri Mahakma Parishad, emphasized that financial assistance was part of their initiative to support the affected individuals. He stated, “In addition to the cheques, food items will also be provided to the families. We are also organizing camps to document the affected families and will conduct health check-up camps to address their medical needs.”
