Siliguri, 12th May: Tension spread in the Uttar Ektiasal area adjacent to Eastern Bypass in Siliguri over allegations of land grabbing. Allegations have been raised against the alleged ‘KGF gang’ for forcibly occupying nearly 1.5 acres of land.
According to allegations, Anupam Maitra had purchased the land in the Ektiasal area several years ago and everything remained normal until April this year. He alleged that a group of miscreants suddenly entered the property with a JCB machine, demolished structures present on the land and assaulted the security guard on duty before forcibly taking control of the property. Later, the name of another individual identified as ‘Neelam Sariya’ was reportedly written on the land.
Following the incident, Anupam Maitra lodged a complaint at Bhakti Nagar police station. However, alleging lack of police action, he later approached the court. The court subsequently imposed restrictions on entry to the land for both parties. Despite the order, allegations surfaced that a new structure had been constructed on the land and security guards had been deployed there.
On Tuesday, Anupam Maitra visited the spot and expressed anger while speaking to mediapersons. He also raised questions over the role of the police in the matter.
Local residents alleged that a land mafia network allegedly operating under Trinamool Congress patronage has been active in the area for a long time. They also claimed attempts were being made to seize land using forged documents.
When contacted, Siliguri Police Commissioner said he was unaware of the matter and assured that the incident would be looked into. He added that Bhakti Nagar police station would be contacted and strict action would be taken against those found involved in the case.
