Siliguri, 12th March: North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) witnessed tensions once again over the screening of a cricket match.
As per reports, the final match between India and New Zealand was screened last Sunday in the lecture hall of the medical college. The incident led to controversy, resulting in a show-cause notice being issued to student Sunny Manna.
Following this, students expressed their anger and protested before the dean on Wednesday, leading to a heated situation between two groups of students.
Regarding the issue, Sunny Manna stated that a letter had been sent to the dean days before the match seeking permission for the screening, but no response was received.
He added that, on the day of the final, the matter was informed to the principal, who verbally permitted the screening in the lecture hall. He further added that he did not open the hall himself, yet a show-cause notice was issued in his name.
On the other hand, Dean Anupam Nath Gupta questioned how a lecture hall, meant for academic purposes, was used for screening a match. He stated that Sunny Manna’s name emerged in the matter, following which he was asked who had granted permission for the screening.
