Teak wood worth Rs 40 lakh recovered from Jalpaiguri’s Dasdarga, one arrested

Rajganj, 24th March: The forest workers of Belakoba range recovered teak wood worth about Rs 40 lakh before the smuggling. A person, identified as Neeraj of Uttar Pradesh, has been arrested in the said incident. 


Acting on a tip-off this morning, under the leadership of ranger Sanjay Dutta, the team intercepted a container by conducting an operation in Dasdarga area on Siliguri-Jalpaiguri National Highway. Upon searching, a huge quantity of teak wood was found hidden inside the container.

Along with the retrieval of the wood, the container driver was also arrested. According to sources, the market value of the recovered wood has been estimated at Rs 40 lakh. The wood was being carried from Assam to Delhi. The accused will be produced before the Jalpaiguri district court on Saturday.
