Tea workers staged a road blockade in Bagdogra over closure of Tirhana Tea Estate

Bagdogra, 06th January: Tea workers of Tirhana Tea Estate staged a road blockade in Bagdogra over the prolonged closure of the tea garden. Sources state that the said tea garden located in Bagdogra had been closed since November, allegedly without payment of Puja bonus.


Reportedly, on Saturday, the workers of the tea estate staged a protest by blocking the Bagdogra Panighata Road demanding the arrest of the tea estate owner and the immediate re-opening of the tea estate by paying proper wages to the workers.

As a result of the protest, the commuters faced severe traffic congestion. Upon receiving the news, Sahayak Sabhadhipati of Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad Roma Reshmi Ekka arrived at the spot and assured of normalcy by speaking to the tea workers. In addition, she assured to hold a meeting with owners and subsequently write a letter to the Chief Minister.
