Tea workers continue their relay hunger strike on day 3 in Darjeeling

Darjeeling, 07th September: The relay hunger strike being organised by tea workers, under the aegis of the Hill Terai Dooars Plantation Workers Union (HTDPWU) affiliated to Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha, continued for the third day.


It is to be noted, the workers of Rungmook Cedar Tea Estate, owned by Bansal Company, are sitting on a relay hunger strike in front of the District Magistrate’s office in Darjeeling. JB Tamang, president of HTDPWU and Bharat Thakuri, the principal secretary, Bharat Thakuri, DOT convener Hemraj Rai informed that the workers of 10 tea estates in the Darjeeling Hills under Bansal Group are on protesting demanding the payment of pending wages, salaries and other benefits.
