Tea worker dies after being shot in Sukna, Ranjan Sarkar assured to help victim’s family

Siliguri, 06th September: A tea worker died of bullet injuries sustained after allegedly being shot by the forest workers near Sukna Forest.


Allegedly the forest personnel opened fire at 28-year-old Ajit Shaurya alias Chunkey last evening while he was returning home after grazing cattle from the forest.

Today, locals of Mohar village protested in front of Sukna Forest Range Office condemning the incident. On receiving the news, the IC of Pradhan Nagar Police Station, West Zone ACP Chinmay Mittal, and additional SP of Kurseong rushed to the spot.


Later, Darjeeling District Trinamool Congress President  Ranjan Sarkar also reached the scene. He assured the victim’s family of providing all possible help.

Sarkar further urged the forest department to take strict action against the person behind this incident. He further demanded the concerned department to offer a job to the deceased’s wife and to bear the entire cost of his son’s education. 

The forest department has asked for 15 days to look into the matter. On the other hand, warden Jayant Mandal stated that he is not aware of the incident, however, maintained that the forest department will investigate whether Ajit Shaurya died from the bullet of the forest worker.
