Siliguri, 06th September: Sensation prevailed after the 28-year-old Ajit Shaurya alias Chunkey was shot dead by the forest workers near the Sukna Forest. The deceased was a tea garden laborer and a resident of the Mohor village.
The locals alleged that Chunkey was shot by the forest workers when he headed towards the Sukna forest last evening.
The agitated locals staged a protest in front of the Sukna Forest office today. Upon receiving the news, IC of Pradhan Nagar Police Station, West Zone ACP Chinmay Mittal, and Additional SP of Kurseong rushed to the spot to tackle the situation.
The protesters warned of continuing with their agitation until the accused forest workers are punished. The deceased’s body has been sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.
