Tagore Appreciation Society setting an example of women’s empowerment by helping women be self-reliant in Siliguri 

Siliguri, 08th November: 40 women are setting an example of self-reliance and empowerment by making scented candles. Sohini and her organization “Tagore Appreciation Society” have been working for a long time to make women self-reliant. In this organization, SC-ST-OBC along with the Backward Classes Welfare Department are working together on behalf of the organization in Siliguri. 


A workshop has been organized, where about 40 women will be trained in making scented candles. The business in the candle industry is flourishing well. Nowadays many people use scented candles on various occasions and also as decor in homes. These types of candles last long hence demand is also high. 

Keeping this in mind, Sohini and her organization have set a goal of making women self-reliant. The secretary of the organization Sohini Gupta said that the organization is working to make women coming from different levels of society self-reliant. At present, efforts are being made to make women self-reliant by making scented candles. In the first phase, 20 women will be trained and later other 20. For this, they will also get an allowance from the government. After taking training, they can make such candles at home and run their own business.
