Sweltering heatwave sweeps from hills to plains, Jalpaiguri and Gangtok witness record-breaking temperatures

Siliguri, 02nd June: Siliguri and its surrounding areas are set to endure an extended period of scorching temperatures resembling a heatwave, as per recent reports. The blistering heat has also spread to Jalpaiguri and the neighboring state of Sikkim, where record-breaking temperatures have been recorded.

Jalpaiguri witnessed the shattering of a 15-year-old record as the mercury soared to a sweltering 38.4 degrees Celsius. Similarly, Gangtok experienced a scorching maximum temperature of 28 degrees Celsius, the highest since the year 2000. The heatwave has left the residents of the hills feeling as uncomfortable as their plains counterparts.

Sources from the Sikkim Meteorological Department suggest that temperatures will continue to rise in the coming days. Despite sporadic rainfall, hopes for respite from the oppressive heat appear bleak.
