Super Cyclonic Storm ‘Amphan’ over Westcentral Bay of Bengal: Cyclone Warning for West Bengal coasts

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of cyclonic storm ‘Amphan’ in West Bengal and Odisha. It is being told that the storm can take a dangerous form in a few hours.


According to the Meteorological Department, coastal districts of Gangetic West Bengal (East Midnapur, North and South 24 Paraganas, Howrah, Hooghly and Kolkata) are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall at many places commencing from today. Rainfall intensity is likely to increase gradually and become maximum on May 20.

Extensive damage to all types of kutcha houses, uprooting of communication and power poles, disruption of rail/road link at several places, damage to standing crops, plantations, orchards, uprooting of large bushy trees have been expected. The fishermen have been advised not to venture into North Bay of Bengal along & off West Bengal–North Odisha coasts up to May 21.
