Siliguri, 08th July: An 11th-standard student of a government school in Siliguri was detained by police after allegedly making derogatory remarks about West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and his mother while recording a social media reel with friends. The video later went viral, triggering widespread outrage.
According to police sources, the student is a resident of Surya Sen Colony in Ward No. 34 under the Siliguri Municipal Corporation. Authorities alleged that the offensive remarks were made during the filming of the reel, which was subsequently shared on social media and circulated widely.
Following the video’s circulation, local residents and several BJP supporters reportedly gathered outside the student’s residence on Tuesday night. Allegations also surfaced that eggs were thrown at the student and that he was physically assaulted, leading to heightened tension in the area.
Police from the NJP Police Station reached the spot after receiving information about the incident. Officers brought the situation under control, rescued the student from the area, and took him to the police station.
The student was later produced before the Juvenile Court on Wednesday after legal procedures were completed. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
