Strict surveillance being kept at the Mahananda Sanctuary to curb anti-social activities

Siliguri, 25th May: While the entire nation is under a complete lockdown to deal with the pandemic, various anti-social activities are on the rise in various parts of the city. In view of this, the Sukna Forest Department adopted several initiatives to get rid of such incidents.


According to the forest department, several anti-social activities like smuggling and cutting down trees in the Mahananda Sanctuary surface every year. Although no such incidents have been reported so far this year, several precautionary measures are being taken to prevent such incidents. 24-hour patrolling is being conducted in the forest areas to provide proper security.

In this context, Jayanta Mandal, Assistant Wildlife Warden of Darjeeling Division, stated that strict surveillance is being kept in the forest premises to ensure no untoward incidents occur in the future.
