STF arrests two women with 400 grams brown sugar in NJP area of Siliguri

Siliguri, 05th June: The Special Task Force (STF) foiled a drug smuggling attempt by arresting two women with a large quantity of brown sugar from the NJP area of Siliguri during a targeted operation based on specific intelligence inputs.

The arrested women have been identified as Sadhana Mandal (30) and Devjani Mandal (55), both residents of Malda district.

According to STF sources, intelligence inputs suggested that a group carrying narcotics from Malda was expected to arrive in NJP. Acting on the information, a special team launched an operation in the area.

During the operation, the two women were intercepted in a suspicious condition and questioned by female officers. Their search led to the recovery of a packet from their bags, which was later found to contain brown sugar.

Officials confirmed that around 400 grams of brown sugar, valued at several lakhs, was seized from their possession.

An NDPS case has been registered, and the accused were produced before the Siliguri court. The court remanded them to four days of STF custody for further interrogation.

Investigators are now trying to trace the wider network behind the smuggling attempt and identify other individuals involved in the racket.
